For all fans of the “Game of Thrones” series, this is a real treat, and it is located right next to the street where the scenes of the series were filmed, not far from Diocletian’s cellars in Split. Game of Thrones is a fantasy series, an adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. It is rated 9.2 on IMDB and is surely one of the greatest series of all time!
Inside the museum, dragons, main characters such as Kit Harrington, Massie Williams and Peter Dinklage are displayed in real size, their costumes and replicas of cities and other symbols and details that every fan of the series will look forward to. The museum took six months to create, and was created by around 40 people, under the leadership of Zagreb entrepreneur Luka Galić.
When creating the museum, they tried to provide the visitors with a complete impression and to describe the atmosphere as realistically as possible, so the walls of the museum are black and add to the dark and cold atmosphere. The room is filled with the scent of cedar wood, jasmine and lavender, a woody note of essential oil, and there is also the character Hodor, who “holds the door”, which is a favorite of some. The real attraction is the dragon’s head, with open jaws, which emerges from the wall and which can serve as a motif for wacky photos for Instagram. In addition to Split, as a backdrop for filming the series for as many as five seasons, there was also Dubrovnik, which played the role of King’s Landing in the series. Trogir and Klis were also locations where numerous scenes were filmed, and after the broadcast of the episodes of the series, they became an even more desirable destination for tourists from all over the world.
The famous city of Royal Bay is our beautiful Dubrovnik, and Diocletian’s Palace in Split was the city of slaves, Mereen.
You will be welcomed at the museum by hosts ready to tell you all the interesting facts and direct you to the filming locations.
If you want to stay near Trogir and visit the museum and locations where the series was filmed, we recommend our Villa Rita III.
